Ensure smooth travels for unaccompanied minors

One of the great thrills of any childhood is to travel as an unaccompanied minor. Kids on a flight by themselves feel excited, special, and of course sometimes a little nervous. But don’t worry, our Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service is there to reassure them. Children travelling alone get special treatment and are escorted by our caring, highly-trained staff from the moment they arrive at airport check-in, until they reach their destination.

During the flight they will be treated to a meal or hot snack and will have access to a selection of kid-oriented content on the in-flight entertainment system. You can also help by providing things like books, a favourite toy, or even a tablet with games, videos, and music they love on it.

Requesting the Unaccompanied Minor service is simplicity itself. Just contact Air Canada Reservations or your travel agent to let us know your child will be travelling alone. You’ll be able to wave goodbye, fully confident of their safety. But, don’t forget that you mustn’t leave the airport until your child’s flight has departed.

The Unaccompanied Minor service is not available for children below the age of 8, is mandatory for children aged 8 to 11 (inclusive), and is optional above age 11. It is only available on direct flights. Learn more.
